US Open Update

G’day from New York!

The 2011 US Open has been fun and hectic as always, but the rain has set in today and things look a little swampy for a while.

I used Dartfish Match Tagging yesterday to analyze the  Tsonga-Fish match, and wrote an article for the New York Times, which just came out a few minutes ago on their website.

The focus is on approaching, and how dominant it was in their match and how it is still one of the best things you can do to win points in tennis.

I have also written two other stories for the New York Times in the past week, and all the links are below.

NEW YORK TIMES – Tsonga v Fish: Getting To The Net

NEW YORK TIMES –  Roddick v Sock: Breaking It Down

NEW YORK TIMES – The Serve + 1 Tactic

This is also a great article by Geoff McDonald in the New York Times about Roger Federer’s first round match.

NEW YORK TIMES – Federer/Giraldo match

I am here coaching Shane Vinsant in the boy’s singles and doubles, and he had a tough loss in the opening round. Shane went down 3-6, 6-4, 6-2 to Nikoa Milojevic of Serbia. Shane led 4-0 in the first set, but ended up cramping badly and things got away from him after winning the first set.

Rain, rain go away! Let’s play some more tennis.

Post From ATP Tour Player Kevin Anderson – Week 1 in Brisbane Recap

Hey everyone,

It was a fun and positive start to the year in Brisbane. It’s my second time I have been there and I really enjoyed it; good food, some good cricket (although the Aussies will leave that part out!) and I had some friends and family who were there as well. Louis and I were back to sharing a room which is always a fun time.

Played some good matches and got through to the semi finals to play Andy Roddick. The schedule was a little different, as we played the quarters on the Thursday and then had Friday off. That gave me Friday to practice on center court (which I hadn’t played any matches on) and get use to the court. Playing on center court isn’t really any different, but the backdrops are so big that gives it a different feel sometimes. I thought I played some good parts against Roddick but I played some loose games that gave him an early advantage in the first and third set. Credit to him though, he served really well and made it through to another final in Brisbane.
